Casa de Pawua
Casa De Pawua is a hospital and medicinal plant healing center nestled in the wilderness of the Bolivian rainforest.
The world is permeated by an overwhelming number of illnesses, most of which can be cured with the use of plant medicine. At Casa de Pawua, we genuinely believe that the jungle is the only pharmacy we truly need.
Our vision for Casa de Pawua is a hospital that uses the native Amazonian psychosomatic approach to tackling illness in the body and mind using medicinal plants found in the jungle. Above this, we also work arduously to foster a safe space for learning vegetalismo and continuing to relay this vast body of knowledge in traditional Amazonian ways of healing that have been carried on for millenia.
Shortly put, Casa de Pawua is a place where patients and students of vegetalismo alike can come, rest, learn and most importantly heal illnesses and ailments that have created impediments to the body and mind.
“The maloka is the body and everyone of us when we enter make up the heart of this body - we give life to the body.”
- Niño de la Selva, Casa de Pawua
Why us?
Whether you are considering visiting another vegetalista or simply looking at different avenues for fixing any ailments you may have we perfectly understand that deciding on a center to visit, or which curandera/o or shaman to work with can be a difficult question. As it should be. We urge you, even if you decide not to come to Casa de Pawua, to treat the process of finding a reliable and experienced curandero the same way you would go about looking for a brain surgeon. Unfortunately, with the rise of so-called “ayahuasca tourism”, psuedo-shamans are mushrooming in all sorts of places. Even though this sacred medicine seems to be in the likes for many Westerners, you must not forget that this is an ancient tradition and being able to call yourself an ayahuasca shaman is a badge honoring years of intense training and practice through plant dietas carried out in the deep jungle. Important note
If you are looking for a hotel-like experience with swimming pools, buffet-style meals with lax dietary restrictions we advise you to look elsewhere.
Plant medicine is very serious work and needs to be handled with a lot of integrity and respect. While comfort and luxury can be nice, this is simply not our focus. Our work is the medicine and sharing it with people who really need it. Our work does not have a lucrative end goal, at times we even steer away people who are looking to drink with us because we don’t see them as being serious, ready or respectful enough.
We are currently in the construction phases of our maloka (ceremonial space). While we look to offer as much comfort as possible, everything is relative and after all, we are in the jungle. At times, we may even hold ceremony in the open air in the jungle, just like our ancestors did.
Remember, when you start this path you immediately enter sacred grounds. The way things are taught are a bit different than the “regular” school system or professional world may have taught you. Please tred forward with respect and humbleness.
Our treatments and services
Each treatment plan is very individual. That said, our treatments are generally made up of a combination of the below elements. Please note that once you fill out our registration form, our team will carefully review it to determine which treatment to recommend you. All of our treatments also include private consultations with our curandero.
Ayahuasca is often called a “master medicine” as it cures a vast variety of different illnesses and diseases.
Among many other things, tobacco helps clear the body of toxins.
Anything from skin irritations to animal or insect bites, to inflammations and more.
For those looking to heal a particular illness or want learn vegetalismo.
More about the ayahuasca ceremony
Please note that there is no ceremony without a shaman. On the same token, our treatments can only be carried out with a dedicated patient. Moreover, it is important that the person looking to drink must be ready, willing and open to receive it. That said, if you are, ayahuasca along with other medicinal plants can be extremely beneficial in healing both mental and physical ailments as well as rewiring old behaviors.
It is important to understand that true healing is a process and although one ayahuasca ceremony can uncover many underlying issues and help cleanse the body of potential toxins it will rarely be sufficient for a complete healing. It is the combination of ayahuasca and tobacco ceremonies along with master plant dietas that is the key. Just like with a surgery, it is not enough for the surgeon to immediately bring in the patient to the operation room - there is a clear preparatory procedure both before and after the surgery. The same can be said about the ayahuasca ceremony.
Once you fill out our patient registration form, we will provide you with a recommendation on how long to stay for your treatment. Moreover, once you meet personally with our curandero he will provide you with a more detailed picture of what your individualized treatment plan will look like.
“The moment we enter ceremony, the maloka becomes a clinic.”
While Western medication suppresses symptoms rarely concerned about finding the root cause, true medicine makes both the symptoms and causes surface, forcing the person to acknowledge his or her issues and challenges.
We urge anyone looking to participate in an ayahuasca or tobacco ceremony to truly consider their reason for seeking it. Working with plant medicine can be extremely challenging and is not something to take lightly.
