Medical precautions
At Casa de Pawua we practice a traditional form of Ashaninka plant medicine. Once you arrive, our maestro Nino de la Selva will assess your current mental and physical health to determine the treatment plan that is best for you. This may or may not include participating in Ayahuasca ceremonies. Please note that Casa de Pawua reserves the unrestricted right to deny participation in Ayahuasca ceremonies for those who may not be a good fit for the medicine.
While the team at Casa de Pawua will certainly explain how this medicine works, it is your responsibility to research it along with any potential side effects for your current conditions. Note that the list below is a guideline and should not be treated as exhaustive. You are expected to be fully transparent with Casa de Pawua’s team about any conditions you have or medications you are taking as well as to consult with your physician should you need to stop any form of medication during your treatment with us.
The following are cases where we recommend against drinking Ayahuasca:
Heart conditions or very high blood pressure
Those taking any form of prescription medication, it is recommended that you stop taking these medicines 2-6 weeks before arriving at Casa de Pawua (depending on the medication). Please read through the full list here.
Diagnosis of dis-associative psychiatric conditions (bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc)
For users of “street drugs”, it is expected you stop consuming any drug for at least two weeks before arrival. You will need to let us know of any substance addiction while making your reservation as well as in the registration form that will be given to you upon arrival.
Working with sacred plant medicines requires both transparency and seriousness from the participant. At Casa de Pawua we want to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone staying with us and avoid any unnecessary risks.
If one of these conditions applies to you, you can still come and stay with us without drinking ayahuasca. The jungle is filled with countless medicinal plants apart from ayahuasca that we work with. We’ve had many patients who have undergone treatments that do not include ayahuasca.
